Legal Dictionary: Discrimination
Discrimination law covers incidents of unequal or unfair treatment based on a person's age, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, and sexual orientation, and other personal characteristics. Discrimination can occur in many aspects of everyday life -- including applying for a job, renting an apartment, getting a promotion at work, and access to restaurants or stores by customers with disabilities. Federal law governs most forms of discrimination, but almost all states have developed laws that mirror federal anti-discrimination statutes.
